From Around the Globe – A Parisian Kitchen
In this article, we explore the balance of form and function while sharing some of our recent inspiration! The key to great design is when aesthetics and functionality are balanced within a space, and this can often be found in a French kitchen. We have found that culturally, there are similarities and differences in how people function in their kitchens, and this is reflected in how these spaces are organized. Our team member Laura has spent the last several months in Paris, gaining the ability to observe the different uses of space and what makes a French kitchen unique to the culture and homeowner, specifically in Paris.
With often limited space, we were inspired by how most Parisian kitchens maximize the room’s utility while maintaining visual appeal. As it is known, the French hold high cuisine standards, making their kitchen a sacred place for cooking and gathering. A French kitchen is often well-organized, well-equipped, and personalized with an extensive amount of attention to detail. Parisian kitchens are known for their seemingly effortless and timeless style and clever use of storage – including wine storage! You will often see convertible pieces, such as foldable tables that can be converted to accommodate a different amount of seating and versatile furniture pieces. Common design elements showcasing the French style include chic decor, brass and copper accents, open shelving, and neutral tones.
